  • Develop note-taking skills that support learning and study in both classroom and independent work settings

  • Establish strategic study tools based on each student’s strengths and preferences that we reevaluate and adapt as new challenges emerge

Language Skills

  • Develop strong reading comprehension and analysis strategies for both narrative and informational texts that students can use for a variety of contexts and purposes

  • Learn to utilize strategies before, during, and after reading that support short term and long term understanding

  • Develop a strong, structured writing process for students to brainstorm their thoughts, create a structure for expressing them, craft sentences and paragraphs that bring those thoughts to the page, and edit and revise as needed to refine their expression

SAT/ACT Prep

  • Learn a close reading comprehension based approach to SAT and ACT prep using lots of practice questions

  • Get accustomed to the language and logic of the multiple choice questions and answer options as well as the passages from various writers and sources

  • Focus on "decisions-making words" in both the texts and the questions themselves to rule out weak answer options

  • Sharpen critical thinking and comprehension strategies to refine reading skills and prepare for the more complex text demands of college level reading

College Applications

  • Give seniors the opportunity to reflect their personalities, values, and thinking skills in a new format that is both personal and creative

  • Find the right story or stories to give admissions officers an authentic sense of each student, which can become a powerful experience in itself

  • Plan, write, revise, and edit personal statements and supplement essays that make the most of this opportunity to reflect on their pasts while considering their futures
