Laura attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree in English as well as her initial post-graduate work in education, followed by her Master’s Degree work in Reading at the University of Virginia. She began tutoring in the Richmond community in 1991 with Reading Matters, where she worked for 15 years. In 2006, she established Learning Partners, LLC, working with dedicated families, educators, and other professionals to support struggling learners. Her career as an educator has helped Laura understand how to best help students learn to lessen the impact of their challenges by developing skills and strategies that navigate their weaknesses while playing to their strengths. Most importantly, students develop an awareness of how their own brains work and how to tailor their approach to tasks and experiences to get the most out of them.

Whether in person or on Zoom, Laura helps all kinds of learners:

  • Enhance reading comprehension and fluency

  • Establish successful, strategic study skills

  • Cultivate effective critical thinking skills that supports all areas of learning
